The blog post is about my experience with Anxiety and depression and the reason I started on the path to becoming a social worker.

I started feeling symptoms of anxiety and depression when I was 19 years old. At this time mental health was not talked about as much as it is now, so when I was feeling sadness, fear, hopelessness and crying all day I didn't know how to handle it. Because I didn't know what to do I started to feel worse. I developed a headache that would not go away and I actually felt like i was losing my mind. At this time I had lost my grandmother to cancer, my cousin to gun violence and I was caring for my 1 year old daughter. There was a lot going on in my life and no one was able to help me. I visited the doctor a numerous amount of times because of this headache. I received head scans to check for any major issues and medication to help with the pain. At times I was unable to drive do to anxiety or go into my favorite stores to shop. I had to leave my job because I was unable to concentrate on my work and the headaches would not subside. Anxiety and depression can become debilitating and stop you from being able to complete your daily activities.I thank my mother and father for being there for me when I called and three of my friends that would always come to my rescue when I needed them. After about 6-8 months of theses feelings I moved in with my mother and started seeing a psychiatrist. While attending these sessions I started to receive knowledge about anxiety, which helped me understand my feelings and start my journey of getting better. Understanding your diagnosis helps you to manage and cope with your anxiety and depression symptoms.

Because of my experience with Anxiety and depression I want to ensure that the children in my community have a successful transition into adulthood, and know how to manage their anxiety and depression in a healthy way.improve the lives of children and ensure that the youth in our community have a successful transition into adulthood
